Absolutely wonderful!! Kitty and Radcliffe practically smoke off the page in their banter。 We shouldn't like Kitty, but she is the sister I would want to have。 Kitty needs a wealthy husband to secure her home and have a place for her four sisters。 Radcliffe sees her for the fortune hunter she is, but she makes no lies about that。 Oh she is so charming。 Thank you NetGalley for an ARC。 Absolutely wonderful!! A funny, lighthearted regency romance - 3。5 stars。 I really enjoyed this book, although the plot was fairly predictable and similar to others I’ve read in the genre。 Kitty’s motivation to marry rich came only out of the need to take care of her sisters, and I applaud her scheming。 Lord Radcliffe should’ve known better than to underestimate a woman determined to get what she wants。 Most of the characters were a bit over-the-top with the drama, but personally, I love that。 Give me all the mamas wi A funny, lighthearted regency romance - 3。5 stars。 I really enjoyed this book, although the plot was fairly predictable and similar to others I’ve read in the genre。 Kitty’s motivation to marry rich came only out of the need to take care of her sisters, and I applaud her scheming。 Lord Radcliffe should’ve known better than to underestimate a woman determined to get what she wants。 Most of the characters were a bit over-the-top with the drama, but personally, I love that。 Give me all the mamas with made up ailments, the backhanded compliments at the balls, and of COURSE the grumpy lords who think they’re above the drama of the ton。 Anyone who’s a fan of Evie Dunmore or India Holton should definitely give this one a try。 I do wish we had learned more about Cecily, but I’m just hoping the lack of closure on her story means we have a sequel to look forward to。 。。。more

This was a pretty fun read! I loved how headstrong and determined Kitty was。 She wasn't shy about being ambitious in her endeavors, even if it did make her a potentially unlikeable "fortune-hunter。" Radcliffe was such a great character and Kitty's perfect counterpart。 I loved their back and forth banter, I only wish there was more of it! I would have loved it if the author had leaned into those interactions more, instead of giving us a summary of events at the end of the scene。 I wanted to see R This was a pretty fun read! This book was very, very slow and at times I found it a little boring, especially the first half。It'll appeal to Pride and Prejudice fans, it's essentially the same story, except where Lizzie has a great will of character Kitty is very lacking in any character or personality and the Lord doesn't have Darcy's charm/character either and both lack their substance。 Also the side characters have nothing on it either。 I'm a big fan of Pride and Prejudice, so I think if you're going to go this route, y This book was very, very slow and at times I found it a little boring, especially the first half。It'll appeal to Pride and Prejudice fans, it's essentially the same story, except where Lizzie has a great will of character Kitty is very lacking in any character or personality and the Lord doesn't have Darcy's charm/character either and both lack their substance。 Also the side characters have nothing on it either。 I'm a big fan of Pride and Prejudice, so I think if you're going to go this route, you should do it right。Kitty is essentially a gold digger, who even rejects well off men as they are not well off enough for her, even though she doesn't have a penny to her name and is in a great amount of debt。It's not very much of a romance, there's not really much between the two leads at all, in fact I was hoping for a romance between other side characters as there was more chemistry between Archie and Selby and Lady Radcliffe and the Aunt, but alas, no luck。It's obviously not historically accurate, which is fine, it's not what I need in a romance, but when the Lord says 'Point' when in agreement, it lifted me out of it a bit too much, that's far too modern, and kind of 'dude-bro' too。 But otherwise it was a pleasant read and there were some send ups of the classics (a joke about how all they do is go from house to house was a good one due to that's a funny criticism of P&P)。 There were also a couple of laughs in there, especially about the judgement of the cat。 It's a nice piece of escapism。 It just dragged a lot。 。。。more

I would rate this book 3。5 stars! This gives me strong Bridgerton Season 2 energy, The story focuses on a girl name Kitty who is the eldest with 4 younger sisters to care for when her parents pass from sickness, leaving the family in debt。 Kitty has the idea to go to London to find a rich husband that would be able to pay off their debts and provide for all of her sisters。 She ventures off with her third eldest child Cecily to stay with their Aunt Dorothy。 The difficulty is fitting into society I would rate this book 3。5 stars! I loved reading a regency romance with a feisty heroine, Kitty Talbot, taking charge and doing whatever it takes to see her sisters settled。 I loved the witty repartee and maneuvers between her and Lord Radcliffe, as she pointed out how hypocritical it was of society and him to judge her for what she was trying to do。The story is quite enjoyable and I think Sophie Irwin will make a delightful addition to the scene。 I look forward to reading more from her。

This was delightful。 I haven't read a lot of unexplicit regency romances, but this was fun。 It was easy to understand both where Kitty and James were coming from and I enjoyed their banter。 "Enemies to lovers" is not my favorite trope because I usually find it tilts so far in one direction that I don't find the transition compelling, but this was really fun。I read an e-ARC through NetGalley。 This was delightful。 I haven't read a lot of unexplicit regency romances, but this was fun。 It was easy to understand both where Kitty and James were coming from and I enjoyed their banter。 "Enemies to lovers" is not my favorite trope because I usually find it tilts so far in one direction that I don't find the transition compelling, but this was really fun。I read an e-ARC through NetGalley。 。。。more

{3。5 stars}I'll admit it Bridgerton has gotten me back into Regency era historical romance。 I've really enjoyed recent stories from Evie Dunmore and Martha Waters who put a new spin on an Austen-esque opinionated women who aren't living their life for just marriage。 Our heroine in A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting, Kitty, is not that。 Her main aim is marriage, and one to a man who is loaded。 She cares little for their personality or her feelings but whether she can save her family from financial {3。5 stars}I'll admit it Bridgerton has gotten me back into Regency era historical romance。 I've really enjoyed recent stories from Evie Dunmore and Martha Waters who put a new spin on an Austen-esque opinionated women who aren't living their life for just marriage。 Our heroine in A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting, Kitty, is not that。 Her main aim is marriage, and one to a man who is loaded。 She cares little for their personality or her feelings but whether she can save her family from financial ruin。 Both parents have passed and she and her four sisters are about to lose their home。 She has mere weeks to craft a way to save them。 She and one sister head to London for the "season" so she can scheme and manipulate her way into the right match。 She has few connections and boy does she use every trick she can think of to attach herself to the Radcliffe family whose second son is her initial target。 When the eldest son comes home and uncovers her scheme, he'll do anything to stop it, until she blackmails him into helping her secure a place with a worthy match。We see some of the glitz and glam of the Bridgerton-type season but get a different perspective as Kitty's family have some scandalous baggage and little wealth。 I admit at first, like Radcliffe, I was quite annoyed with her gold digging but it's easy to see her motivations as the story progresses。 Sister Cecy was an easier character to love。 This one is a bit more scheme-y than romance-y, so don't expect a lot of steam or even much angst。 I hoped for some more witty banter but we didn't get that til the last few chapters。 Some nice girl power moments, my favorite scene is quite a jaw dropper when Kitty uses her power in an unexpected way towards the end of the story。 A solid story but needed a little more in a few areas to be a shelf worthy choice for me。Thanks to Netgalley for advanced access to this novel。 All opinions above are my own。 。。。more

No, but I ended up really enjoying this non-traditional take on an historical romance。 And of course I loved the HEA (would have loved an epilogue even more)。 。。。more

Set in the regency era, it follows Kitty Talbot, the oldest of five sisters, who get jilted by her unofficial fiancé after a period of courtship that lasted a long period of time。 Kitty, who only wanted to marry him so that she and her newly orphaned sisters don't end up destitute。 With him going back on his expected offer of marriage to her, she sets out to London, on a time-constrained task to find herself a rich man by the end of the season。This book deals with themes that any modern book set in the regency era would be expected to - sexism, and the patriarchy。 In no part of the book did I feel like Kitty's voice wasn't strong enough to impress upon the reader the precariousness of her situation。 Chapters from her POV made it clear that she was under immense anxiety about her situation, and her bitter clarity about how marrying for love might be too much of a stretch for her。Another thing that the narrative portrays well is the handling of parental loss by the eldest child in the family。 Kitty longs for moments with her parents when she might seek their advice, or any kind of a reassuring parental stand-in in the form of her Aunt Dorothy, who hosts her and her sister Cecily in London, as well as tries to introduce her to eligible suitors。 Similarly, another character, Lord Radcliffe, deals with the loss of his father, and comes to terms with his relationship with him, as well as slowly learns to take over as the patriarch of his family。While Kitty and Radcliffe felt fleshed out, and had strong narrative voices, the other characters felt quite flat and seemed to exist only for the purpose of pointing out the obvious。 Kitty and Radcliffe's initial interaction, as well as their verbal banter was extremely chuckleworthy, albeit a little too direct to suit the era the book is set in。 Kitty struck me as awfully straightforward and blunt, as well as callous about her actions at certain parts of the book。 And there were parts of the story that made me feel like the author was trying too hard at giving Kitty a progressive outlook to life。It is clear that this book is heavily inspired by Pride and Prejudice, but with elements to suit the modern reader。 As a fan of the classic myself, it was a little hard for me to wrap my head around Kitty's mostly sensible POV, and having Jane be the youngest child。 The author wears her inspiration on her sleeve and I doubt I can blame her for her choice。 But, I wish she stayed a little truer to keeping all the events in the story such that they seemed to fit in the regency era。 There were some parts I genuinely enjoyed, others I could not believe would hold up in the setting。 This, alone, is my biggest criticism of the book。 If you are looking for something similar to Austen's classic, you will find it here。 Maybe, just maybe, if you set your expectations right when you decide to pick this up, it will be a lot more than a 3 star read for you。 I would say that it would be a good idea to pick this up and decide for yourself。 What it lacks in refinement, it may make up for with its fresh outlook on the depiction of various themes contained in the narrative。I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。Instagram | Twitter 。。。more

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy!I got this, this week, because I saw Illumicrate was doing a gorgeous special edition and needed to know immediately if I was going to want to spend $40+ USD on it or not。 My wallet is happy to report that I will not be purchasing the Illumicrate copy。 But that said, it was quite cute and I did appreciate the lack of anything truly spicy。 Sometimes I do just want romance and not explicit sex。But I also didn't love the relationship betwee Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy!I got this, this week, because I saw Illumicrate was doing a gorgeous special edition and needed to know immediately if I was going to want to spend $40+ USD on it or not。 My wallet is happy to report that I will not be purchasing the Illumicrate copy。 But that said, it was quite cute and I did appreciate the lack of anything truly spicy。 Sometimes I do just want romance and not explicit sex。But I also didn't love the relationship between the two leads all the time。 Like, I get that it's hard to be really feminist in historical romances but to have it be partial and have men treat the woman so abominably is just cringe and makes me upset。 Dealing with hypocrisy, unfairness and blatant inequity just makes me angry - even when it's through the pages of a book。 Anyway, if you did love this - you might want to check out the Illumicrate special edition going on sale next month! It really is pretty。 。。。more

This was a fun and comedic historical romance that tonally reminded me of Mia Vincy's A Wicked Kind of Husband。 This book is really for lovers of witty and heartfelt banter filled with frank observations。 I loved that Kitty was unashamed of her fortune-hunting ways。 I also loved the framing that suggested that marrying for money so she can support the family she loves is enough to amount to a "marriage of love。" One of my favorite aspects of the books was Kitty's capacity to surprise Radcliffe w This was a fun and comedic historical romance that tonally reminded me of Mia Vincy's A Wicked Kind of Husband。 This book is really for lovers of witty and heartfelt banter filled with frank observations。 I loved that Kitty was unashamed of her fortune-hunting ways。 I also loved the framing that suggested that marrying for money so she can support the family she loves is enough to amount to a "marriage of love。" One of my favorite aspects of the books was Kitty's capacity to surprise Radcliffe with her comments。 I found this tremendously engaging and read it in a single sitting。I had a few reservations with the book。 Sticklers of historical accuracy are unlikely to enjoy this book as it plays a little fast and loose with era-appropriate behavior。 However, it is not as blatant an offender of this as some other books in the genre。 This book is also unlikely to live-up to a second read through, as I think many of it's strengths would be diluted upon being revisited which would make some of the flaws, most especially the characterizations of secondary characters such as Archie, more apparent and harder to countenance。 Nonetheless, I would recommend it for lovers of historical romance wholeheartedly。 。。。more
